About Numbat Art

Numbat Art is the art and creative editions initiative of House of Numbat, an independent family-led design business based in Norfolk, England.

Our work brings together two areas of creative interest: contemporary art inspired by textiles and carefully produced prints documenting selected material from the Veronika Guardi Archive.

Both have their roots in a family's long experience of clothing, fabric, design and craftsmanship.

Through original artwork and archival reproductions, Numbat Art explores the relationship between material, creativity and memory.

Our aim is to make work that can be appreciated not only for its appearance, but also for the ideas and stories behind it.

About the Series

The Textile Abstraction Series is an original artistic project developed by House of Numbat, exploring the visual qualities of textiles through contemporary abstract compositions.

Inspired by the family's experience in fabric, garment construction and design, the series considers how texture, colour, layers and surface can become a language of their own.

Rather than illustrating clothing directly, the artworks explore qualities familiar to anyone who works with materials: weight, movement, contrast, structure and the marks left by making.

The series brings textile thinking into a different creative form.

Material as Inspiration

Fabric is more than a surface.

Its fibres, weave, folds, seams and textures influence how it looks, moves and feels.

These qualities provide a starting point for the Textile Abstraction Series.

Individual works may explore layered surfaces, tactile contrasts, stitching-inspired marks, fabric-like structures and relationships between colour and form.

The aim is not to reproduce a garment, but to translate the experience of working with textiles into abstract art.

Some studies also draw on the creative experimentation developed through House of Numbat's Symbol Couture work.

British Landscape and Material Culture

The series draws inspiration from the colours and textures of the British landscape and from the materials associated with traditional interiors and clothing.

These influences include:

• Natural fibres and heritage textiles

• Weathered stone and architectural surfaces

• Countryside colours and seasonal light

• Traditional craftsmanship

• Layered fabrics and interior textures

• The relationship between natural and manufactured materials

The resulting work seeks a balance between contemporary abstraction and the quieter qualities of familiar materials.

Original Works and Small Editions

The Textile Abstraction Series is developed as a small-scale creative project rather than a mass-produced decorative range.

Works may differ in composition, texture, colour and technique.

Individual artwork descriptions will identify the medium, dimensions, materials and whether the piece is an original or a reproduction.

Our intention is to offer thoughtfully developed work for people who appreciate textiles, craftsmanship and contemporary art.
